Ainslie Apartments

 Located on the corner of Ainslie and Bruce Street in Galt, Ontario, the Ainslie Apartments provide a safe place for at risk youth and students. The building forms a cyclical narrative, where caring, creation and sharing can coexist. While care is required to support the well-being the residents, it also allows them to feel comfortable being themselves. With this comes the freedom to create and the confidence to share, aided by the assembly of key programmatic spaces: maker space, music rental store, market, and a multipurpose auditorium that opens up to the outside. As a result, being witness to their peers’ creativity inspires them to do the same. By engaging social interaction and community-based recovery, it allows residents to explore their creative pursuits. It gives them the freedom, support and resources they need in order to prepare for independent living, find their identity, or simply, heal.
